Eighteenth Street Lounge (ESL)
Came here on a Tuesday night once and it was jumpin-jumpin. There’s almost always something popping here.
The artsy, boho decor is cute for pictures, but it’s been so dark every time I’ve come, outside of the moody lighting. I’ve also been focused on having fun, so there’s that.
They do live music - I’ve seen reggae and a gogo band so far - and have an outdoor/indoor patio. It draws a very mixed bag crowd and everyone is there to have a good time.
One of the roomier nightlife venues in the city!
I recommend Marvin’s rooftop to literally everybody, especially in the summer. It’s one of the 14th Street/U Street staples that everyone ends up at.
There’s a restaurant, too, but honestly out of all the times I’ve came here, I’ve never actually sat down to eat. I’ve probably only been on the bottom level once, now that I think about it.
I’ve climbed them stairs plenty of times, though, and have usually had a good time once I got to the top. If you like live music, the bottom floor holds those kinds of events as well.
It’s not the most breathtaking place in terms of decor, but the vibes are unmatched.
